Derek Murray introduces the prizegiving ceremony from the Festival Hall, in Oslo University.

Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan were cofounders of  (Community of) the Peace People, an organisation established in response to the escalating violence in Northern Ireland during the 1970s. The Peace People advocated a peacefil resolution to 'The Troubles'.

During the broadcast, it is observed that the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the two women represents a poignant moment in Ulster's troubles, despite happening "several hundred miles from home". 

Aase Lionaes, the chairmen of the Nobel Peace Committee, presents the gold medals in front of an audience, with King Olav V of Norway in attendance.

Notes

The organisation 'Peace People' is still active in promoting non-violence.
