Description

Put together from many other reels, Dr. Frank McDowell’s intention in this film was ‘to give an impression of what N. Ireland looks like’. While admitting many omissions, Dr McDowell’s version includes Parliament Buildings at Stormont, the sea-ports in Belfast and Larne, the mountains of Mourne, Bangor, a Boxing Day hunt, a 12th July procession, Carrickfergus Castle, Slemish, the Antrim Coast road, Whitehead and yacht clubs in Cultra and Whiterock, in his beloved Strangford Lough. Dr McDowell also shows the Royal Maternity Hospital, where staff are playing with what looks like a baby lemur, and the new Altnagelvin Hospital, with a glimpse of F.E.McWilliam’s Princess Macha sculpture.
