Description

A representative of the Orange Lodge is seen here responding to communication from Senator James Lennon of the Northern Ireland Senate who was the Vice President of Ancient Order of Hibernians. There had been high hopes that so-called Orange/Green talks could be arranged between Lennon and his fellow senator, Sir George Clarke, Grand Master of the Orange Lodge. It had been hoped that these two organisations could come together in a spirit of friendliness to bolster cross-community relations. As can be seen in the interview with Clarke in this piece, there were problems even on agreeing an agenda and the chance of talks soon began to flounder.
