Description

Pack Up the Troubles by Cahal McLaughlin and Lin Solomon explores the presence of the British Army in Northern Ireland. Through extensive and candid interviews with soldiers' families, academics, British ex-forces personnel, American diplomats, journalists, politicians from all sides, and the public, McLaughlin’s film examines various perspectives on the conflict.

Figures such as Ian Paisley, Seamus Mallon, Joseph Kennedy, and Lord Prior, along with public opinion polls, offer diverse viewpoints on the impact of the British Army’s deployment to Northern Ireland in 1969. The film discusses issues such as political neglect, media representation, and the prolongation of the conflict. It provides a comprehensive look at the political strategies of Army PR management during Northern Ireland’s troubled past and considers the legacy of colonialism and its implications for Northern Ireland's future.
