Description

This short film by Fergus Friel was completed for the 2024 Rathmullan Film Festival's What's the Story? short film competition. Friel reflects on the project:

An undefeated boxer is challenged to a fight by an old man who may have some hidden powers.

I really enjoyed this year's challenge which was my second year participating. I find the challenge really unique compared to other film making events, as using the archival footage really boosts creativity while also making it difficult to stick to the rules.

I loved the selection of films that were chosen and really wanted to use pieces from all of them, but would have been impossible to do in 3 minutes! In the end I went with the clip of the boxer who stood out to me right away and I built my story around that.

It's an amazing event and great to see how everyone interprets the same footage in such different ways, and I hope you keep this event on the schedule going forward.
