This footage jumps and cuts abruptly.
Addressing an audience, Church of Ireland clergy, along with several other speakers, and members of the public, detail their opposition to the ordination of women as priests.
The church voting system is explained. Members of the audience stand and offer their opinion on this contentious matter. The idea of a new, breakaway Church of Ireland - one with a new leadership and organised according to new principles is proposed. However, this suggestion is swiftly and broadly dismissed - including from a Rector Taylor, who urges against any schism in the church. One person voices their support for the idea of women priests, only to be met with chants of "shame" from others in attendance.
The concluding opinion comes from John Bark (Church of England priest) who has worked in NI for 17 years. He commends the Church of Ireland for retaining something of both Protestant values and Catholic order. He says that Bishop Gender (an earlier speaker) is entirely correct, when he says that the issue of women priests is, 'at heart, a theological question, not a sociological one," albeit Bark disagrees with the Bishop's conclusion and, personally, sees no theological difficulty with the concept.
