Description

Nurses take care of some of the babies at the Ulster Hospital and then bring them in to see their mums. These shots accompany the opening ceremony performed by Dr Robert Marshall. The ward is named after Templemore Avenue Hospital where Dr Marshall worked during the interim war years. Dr Marshall specialised in children’s heart cardiology. 

Notes

Templemore Avenue Hospital was founded in 1891 after the original Ulster Hospital outgrew its buildings in Fisherwick Place. It became a maternity hospital. The building was badly damaged in the Belfast Blitz in 1941 and the hospital relocated to Dundonald.
