This wonderfully nostalgic film retraces a journey on the old Belfast and Co Down railway line. The line had served Co Down as far north and east as Donaghadee and as far south as Newcastle. This section of the line, from Belfast out to Comber and up through Newtownards to Donaghadee, was closed in 1950. However, when this film was made in 1964, there were many reminders of the line still in place. These included the stonework bottoms of the old railway arches at Holywood Arches in east Belfast and the entire platform and station at Comber. With an evocative soundtrack and wistful narration recounting old Sunday school outings along the line, this is a gem of a film from the UTV archive, capturing the line when little bits of it still survived.
