Description

The Road Bowls Championships are on near Darkley in county Armagh and the men are playing for big money. A huge crowd gathers to watch the match.

Notes

Bullet-throwing, or road bowls, is a ancient Irish sport. Under the rules of Bol Chumann na hÉireann, the Irish Road Bowling Association, two competitors throw the solid steel ball or ‘bullet’ along a three mile course of open road. The winner is the one who takes the least throws. Previously prevalent all over Ireland, the sport is now found only in Armagh and Cork.
