Description

Run-Down to Armageddon is a film by Declan Foley created for the What's the Story? short film competition at the 2024 Rathmullan Film Festival.

A scientific experiment gone wrong causes a rupture in time. Various odd events ensue, capped by an invasion of Earth from the future. Edited in the style of vintage sci fi film trailers from the 50s and 60s.

Foley reflects on this project:

Working with the archives was a novel experience. I wanted to maintain the integrity of the clips and use them to help generate an imaginative narrative, as opposed to just imposing one on them. For example, I didn’t want to dub over any of the dialogue with my own, but rather allow the original dialogues to suggest aspects of the larger narrative.

The overarching narrative of the rupture in time was principally suggested by the Daleks clip. This led naturally to couching it in the style of trailers from 1950s and 60s sci fi movies.
