The English translation of Saoirse is Freedom. Saoirse? is a follow-up to George Morrison's 1959 film Mise Eire (I Am Ireland) which dealt with the nationalist struggle up to the victory of Sinn Fein in the elections of 1918. They were both distributed widely in Irish cinemas. While the first film was a resounding success, the second was somewhat less so, perhaps because it lacked the romantic heroism of the former. A planned third part, which would examine the inter-war period in Ireland was never made.
