Description

Beautiful footage of the Glens of Antrim, inspired by the poetry of Moira O’Neill, the pseudonym of Agnes Shakespeare Higginson (1864–1955), a popular Irish-Canadian poet who wrote ballads and other verse inspired by County Antrim, where she lived at Cushendun.

This film captures the essence of her work, Songs of the Glens of Antrim, it included 25 ballads and poems, mainly written in the dialect of the Glens. Her subjects include townland names, aspects of rural life and themes of exile and return, reflecting her emigration to Canada, before she returned to Co Antrim.

The lady in the film is Mrs Douglas, but we do not know anything more about her or why she was filmed. Perhaps she’s listening to some of Moira O’Neill’s poetry.
