Description

The ocean liner SS Canberra was one of the most famous ships to be built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. Launched in 1960, she began a period of sea trials in April 1961 before taking up service the following month. As this footage shows, the people of the area knew well that this was an out of the ordinary ship and turned up to line the shores of Belfast Lough to watch the elegant craft on its manoeuvres.
