Ronnie Fails was a student at Queens University, Belfast when he took up amateur film making back in the 1950s before going on to become a teacher. Using a Bell and Howell Gavmont Model 605 8mm camera Ronnie continued using cine film beyond his student years as he 'wanted a record of my family holidays when my children were young.' Ronnie was a member of the CPA Camera Club during the 1950s but only continued to record his memories in a 'very limited extent' when video took over from film as the main format. Ronnie has made some transfers of his films, including holidays in Sweden from 1951-54 and is happy that new generations of his family are able to share in them. 'I am glad to be able to show my grown up children episodes in my life when they were young, or before they were born'.
