Michael Kennedy remembers how his father, William a publican at the time, filmed the local events in Strabane during the 1950s which were included in ‘Super 8 Stories’ and which are now part of the Digital Film Archive. “He was very interested in local history and photography. He was involved in fund-raising for the parish so he showed films in the local hall, then filmed events specially to show them”. Shows were also set up at home for the family. “Each Sunday evening we gathered in the sitting room to view the films which had been returned by post after processing”. Michael took up the film making habit himself and is thrilled that there is still an interest in his father’s films all these years later. “My father passed away in 1969 but I continued with the Super 8 format and then onto video. If my father knew that his films were still in demand and ‘doing the rounds’ he would be very pleased”.
