Description

Grace Foster and her mother were both teachers in the Mersey Street Primary School in East Belfast during the 1960s. They were also both keen film-makers and, as well as filming their school life, they took delight in capturing memories of their family around their home in Newtownards. Grace is joined by her daughter, Pamela Bishop, in reliving their memories through their films. This clip appeared in Series 1, Programme 2 of Super 8 Stories.

Notes

Grace Foster and her mother, also named Grace, were both school teachers at Mersey Street Primary School in East Belfast when they took up 8mm film-making. “My mother bought the camera (a Eumig Eumigette Super 8 zoom) to record her holidays and the events in her family life like Christmas with the family, weddings, babies etc. We watched them and enjoyed them together. We would then join them together and put them on larger reels, which was easier to view. There was a lot of fun looking at some of the film”. Grace is left with many happy memories of her films. “The visual memories of the family many years ago and those who are no longer here are priceless. It is also historically interesting to see the school playground, clothes, cars and public transport”.
