Description

Road racing is a sport which has always thrived in Northern Ireland and the Ulster Grand Prix at Dundrod has always been one of the most events in its calendar. This important amateur roadside footage shot by spectators and keen followers of the sport in the 1960s helps bring back to life the glory days of the race. Interviews with brothers David and John Elder, who watched from the hedges, and one of the top riders from the time, Tommy Robb, help to explain the passion people hold for this particular discipline of bike racing. This clip appeared in Series 3, Programme 3 of 'Super 8 Stories'.

Shot List

Mechanics working on bikes and riders getting in pit lane. Family of spectators watching from grassy bank. Riders pushing bikes to the start line. Shots from various corners of the race. Drivers pushing bikes at start and lots more shots of the race from many different bends and straights on the course. Another push start. More behind the scenes footage from the pit lanes with riders chatting and mechanics working. Riders slowly walking bikes to start. More race shots.
