Jane and Barney loved their little ferry trip in the last episode and today they tell us about their two day adventure on Rathlin Island. There is only one school at Rathlin, Rathlin Primary School, and Jane and Barney can’t wait to visit. Mrs. McVeigh, the only teacher at the school, shows them the classroom and introduces some of her 18 students. The students describe their life in this small island community and their favourite activities. Next stop on Rathlin is a bird sanctuary where Jane and Barney observe a great variety of seabirds. One could spend hours gazing up, down at towering stacks and cliffs. A spectacular seabird city convenes here every year as the puffins, razorbills, guillemots and kittiwakes search for breeding space. Jane also shows us Rathlin lighthouses - yes, there is more than one - which are there to warn ships against dangerous rocks ahead. The principal lighthouse keeper shows them the main control room and even allows them to climb to the very top of the lighthouse tower.
