Jane and Barney are all set for another adventure. Today they want to meet and learn about unusual animals from far far away. Jane knows just the place!A short journey in Jane’s car takes them to the Causeway Safari Park at Benvarden, near Ballymoney in County Antrim. Here they encounter a variety of different animals removed from their natural habitat and placed in this park in Northern Ireland so that we can all have a look. Barney and Jane take a tour around the grounds accompanied by Mr. McClintock who runs the park and can answer Jane and Barney’s questions. They get to see lions, zebras, chimpanzees as they lie or walk around boredly inside their enclosures. They also meet a camel and learn what the humps are for.
The Causeway Safari Park opened in 1970 with drive through enclosures occupied by lions, tigers, baboons and elephant. The Park struggled to stay open due to the Troubles and finally closed its doors as a Safari park in 1997.
