Barney and Jane are thinking of different boats and ships that sail the sea - big ferries, yachts, ocean liners but also small dinghies, rowing and fishing boats. But what happens when sailors get in trouble at sea? Who goes to their rescue?
The lifeboat crew! Today’s adventure leads to Portrush in County Antrim where Barney and Jane meet the lifeboat crew and investigate what it is like to be part of it. Armed with lifejackets, the duo joins the crew aboard their boat and head out to sea. While Barney watches the coast go by, Jane decides to take a mini tour of the boat and interview different members onboard. Steering the lifeboat is Robert who explains what different instruments are for and how they’re used. Jane also gets to meet the radio operator, the navigator who plots the course and members of the deck crew. There is another rescue team ready to be called into action - the Coastguard Service. Jane and Barney meet the coastguard crew by the cliffs of Ballintoy where they demonstrate their rescue skills.
