In this Take Ten episode, Gerry Kelly interviews Walter Williams, a former Orange Order Grand Secretary, who was responsible for coordinating all the lodges over the years of the 12th of July annual processions. Together they look back at the last 20 years of this tradition.
Williams remembers how it all started for him in 1946 when he joined the institution which eventually led to his appointment as assistant grand secretary in 1958. He further explains what the position entails and looks back at the processions over the years. The first archive insert features Charles Witherspoon reporting on the 12th of July from Sandy Row and Shankill Area and the second reports on the parade of 1977 in Belfast.
