Description

An interview with Terence O’Neill on the 5 point plan for reforms that his cabinet has approved. He is hopeful this will give the Civil Rights movement most of what it demands. O’Neill’s Cabinet has not included one man-one vote – a key demand of the protesters. He will not be drawn on whether this will ever happen. He is adamant that he has full party backing for these reforms. Although O’Neill was facing struggles within the party, he denies any concern at this point.

The plan includes the introduction of an Ombudsman to oversee central government affairs. The Special Powers Act will remain but O’Neill admits some sections are very problematic. Points allocation will be introduced for housing. The Londonderry Area plan will look at the development of the north-west. Eventual voting franchise reform will come. This will not mean one man-one vote but the company vote will go.
