Prime Minister Terence O’Neill gives a speech to Ulster Unionist party members.
Captain Lawrence Orr gives the introductory speech and focusses on the main issues of the upcoming UK general election. He also addresses a recent petrol bomb attack on the Unionist Party’s headquarters in Glengall Street.
PM O’Neill reflects on the 1965 Stormont parliament election which he viewed as overall successful, especially the decline in Labour votes in Belfast, however in the 1966 election, the Unionist Party were to lose a Westminster seat to Gerry Fitt of the Republican Labour Party.
Captain Orr was the Westminster MP for South Down, 1950-1974 and chairman of the Ulster Unionist MPs in Westminster and Imperial Grand Master of the Orange Order.
