UTV reporter Charlie Witherspoon visits St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh. There he investigates the tradition of bell ringing which dates back over 1,000 years at the location to summon choristers for matins. Charlie is clearly struggling with the effort to climb all the steps of the narrow staircase in the cathedral’s bell tower, and he tells us about attempts to make the process easier with the introduction of automatic ringing through electricity.
Charlie interviews Mr Jack Redmond about how the new electrical machinery works. However, when he finishes the report with a demonstration of the bell ringing while he stands beside it, it’s almost more than his hears can take.
