Description

News segment about the upcoming 2021 Census in Northern Ireland. National identity is disscused in the context of Brexit and the Northern Ireland protocol. This census was the first to include an optional question on sexual orientation, John O'Doherty gives a short interview on the topic. The Rainbow Project welcomed the NI census results around sexual orientation but expressed its disappointment that the Northern Irish census did not include questions on gender identity.

The population of Northern Ireland on census day, 21 March 2021, was 1,903,175. While the number of households in Northern Ireland was 768,810.
