Description

The New Zealand ship Waikato is commissioned on Stormont Wharf at Belfast docks.  

The Waikato was a Leander class anti-submarine frigate. Her crew of 16 officers and 233 men were flown to Belfast to man the ship which had been fitted with the latest anti-submarine equipment and Shorts-manufactured Seacat missiles.
