Description

The practice of distributing shamrock to the Irish Guards was begun by Queen Victoria and, during the First World War, Irish troops at the front were sent peices of the national emblem to be distributed by officers. The clip shows supervised children picking shamrock (which is no more than clover in early growth) and putting it into baskets and sacks.
