Description

The Final Word originated from a project involving writer Jan Carson, who had been commissioned by the MAC and NI Screen to create a series of short stories based on the NI Screen Digital Film Archive. Carson chose John T. Davis' 1989 film, Dust On The Bible. This documentary film looked at different aspects of religion in Northern Ireland. In response to this film, Jan wrote a series of fictional monologue from the perspective of women (who were often in the background) featured in the documentary.

Crowe's film, The Final Word, featured one of these stories. is about a young girl that can't quite understand her strict religious upbringing and why she can't play with the other children on trips to services at the beach. Many of the visuals are influenced by imagery in Davis' film and uses footage from the NI Screen Digital Film Archive of both seaside resorts and political figures from that time.
