Description

The funeral takes place of James Boyce, broadcaster and popular figure in television, the academic world and theatre. James had died suddenly at the age of 57 and the news was greeted with shock and sadness all across Northern Ireland. Among the mourners are Harold Goldblatt of the Arts Theatre, actor Joe Tomelty and Charlie Witherspoon.

James made his first broadcast in 1937 and taught English and French at Inst in Belfast for 20 years before becoming a freelance journalist and writer. His wit and intelligence shone through in his broadcasts, and we are fortunate to have some of his work in the Digital Film Archive.
