Brian Durkin interviews Mr Sammy White ahead of the competition. International tractors competing include teams from England, Europe and one from New Zealand.

There are six classes, including two for horse-ploughing, with the top two in each class qualifying for the World Championships to be held in Austria the following year.

Durkin interviews Hugh Barr, former champion, about ploughing, the history of the competition and the skills involved. Hugh won the World Championships three times.

Ploughing competions take place all over the world. The Irish National Ploughing Championships are one of the largest. Judging is based on 'a good opening' (ie the turnover of the soil) and straight furrows, among other criteria.
