Description

Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Northern Ireland for a two day visit in July 1966, primarily to officially open the new bridge named in her honour across the River Lagan in Belfast. However, she also carried out many other public functions and can be seen here on the second day making two official openings. The first is of some new playing fields connected with Queen’s University, Belfast. The second is attending and declaring open the new Social Sciences building, also at Queen’s. The famous stage actor Sir Tyrone Guthrie was Chancellor of Queen’s at this time and he can be seen meeting the Queen and guiding her round at the events.
