Description

Presented by Barry Cowan, this is a series attempting to answer some of Northern Ireland's - and life's - burning questions, with this episode looking at how the Troubles are portrayed in TV drama and should they raise moral questions?

This programme is particularly looking at a new TV drama 'Act of Betrayal' with is soon to be aired to UK audiences. On the panel tonight is Nick Evans [writer and producer of Act of Betrayal] Martin Lynch [local playwright] and Eamonn Mallie [Political correspondent at Downtown Radio].

Nick explains how the show appealed to him as it dealt with real human moral issues and could be applied anywhere. However, Martin is worried about the motivation on making a film like this, do the creators really case about the situation or is money a motivator? Eamonn believes that the conclusion is unreal and the main criticism is that "it is in fact drama" and so cannot accurately reflect what is going on here.

Another matter of contention for Martin is that it is a drama focused on Northern Ireland and the troubles, created from the outside, and often grabs onto the the action and violence. He would like to see someone from West Belfast given the chance to tell their stories without it being told for them by others.

Concluding the episode is the topic of who is the hero in the show; the answer is that it's more on who's eyes the story unfolds through, which is the wife.
