Description

Mike Scott presents this Hallowe'en special, live from Belfast.

Social Anthropologist, Tony Buckley observes that Hallowe'en is a family occasion and shares traits with New Year celebrations. The Crothers family tell of a macabre encounter, of a fairy ring up Cave Hill, where a cat was pinned to a tree and chanting was heard.

The religious aspect of Hallowe'en is dicussed by Fr. Pat Buckley who cautions about passing mythology off as harmless, as there is a side of evil which is very real. This is echoed by Jill Simpson who was a nonbeliever until she met someone who was 'a sorcerer'. The tells of curses written in blood being put through their letterbox, this coinciding with a spate of unexplained, occurrences and her negative things happening children suffering violent nightmares.

Next, we hear from those who practice the occult. Cathy McKeown (witch), speaks about having an extra sense. Sally Taylor (Witch Queen), runs a college for magical studies and details the differences between Wicca and the Old Craft. Finally, Pat Cassidy from Fermanagh performs a traditional Halloween dance.
