Description

Part of ITV's travelogue series, About Britain, this programme invites viewers to see Lough Erne through the eyes of the people who live near the Ulster way.

Visiting various parts of Fermanagh and the Lakelands - Devenish Island, White Island, Boa Island, Lisbellaw, Enniskillen - we see how former monastic settlements became havens for quiet contemplation, leisure and artistic endeavour. The programme also visits the Moira Depot of the Historic Environment Division where stone masons work to restore and repair stone buildings across Northern Ireland. The section with the stone masons shows what a wealth of talent was available back then within the Moira Stone shop. Shortly before the work on the replica doorway at Newtownards Priory the team had completely restored the Newtownards Town hall façade. This included the selection of and cutting/dressing of all the required Ashlar block from the Quarry to the workshop in Moira and then back to the site at Newtownards Town Hall.

Notes

Featuring the art of Jim McKeever and commentary from historian Helen Lanigan Wood, former curator of Fermanagh County Museum.
