Part of ITV's travelogue series, About Britain, in this programme we find Michael Duffy strolling through the countryside, meeting local people and hearing their stories. His aim, to see the "countryside through the eyes of the people who live the Ulster way". This part of the tour of the Ulster Way takes a closer look at the Kingdom of Mournes.
Steeped in history and legends, this part of the country is a great place to start. The journey begins by the Strangford Lough where Michael joins Pat Boaden of the Queens University Belfast to explore the diverse marine wildlife living in the lough. In Kilkeel, Michael meets local fishermen who talk about their work and share some of their knowledge. Surrounded by the rugged landscape of the Mournes, you’ll encounter some of the areas most beloved characters carrying on the traditions such as farming and stonemasonry all while battling the elements. You might need one of the areas local rescue mountain dogs to help you finish this journey as the weather can change on a dime up in the mountains.
