The Western Theatre Ballet was formed in Bristol in 1957 but went on to become the Scottish Ballet, the national ballet theatre of Scotland. The Theatre was renowned for combining dance and drama in works such as The Prisoners (set to music by Bartok), Nonstop and Wedding Present that dealt with sex, murder and desire in a way that has perhaps never since been equalled.
Robin Haig was born in Perth in 1937 and received her early dance training in Kalgoorlie and Perth. At 17 years of age she won a Royal Academy of Dancing scholarship and completed her training in London at the Royal Ballet School. As a professional she danced with the Australian Theatre Ballet, the Royal Ballet, London Ballet, Western Theatre Ballet, Scottish Ballet, the Australian Ballet and the West Australian Ballet.
