Description

In this episode of Ultimate Ulster, presenter Frank Mitchell runs the audience through the top ten 'Days Out' in Northern Ireland as voted for by the public, this could have been a location, an attraction or an activity.

Out of the many choices, the nation's most voted for day out is the activity of 'shopping'. Insight is provided by retail expert Joanne Jennings, who says that Northern Ireland has begun to have a 'European culture; also speaking is keen shopper Marie White who believes that shopping offers us a chance to 'feel good about ourselves'.

Following this is the Ulster Folk and Transport museum in County Down with Robert Berry and Cecil Johnston giving testimonials about the 170 acre site. Coming in at third place is a day out 'walking'. Interviewed about why they voted for this activity is Martin McGuigan, a mountain leader and Nora McGrath; places mentioned that are great for a walk are the Mourne Mountains, Glens of Antrim and the many coastal walks found in NI.

Another popular day out includes a drive around the 'Antrim Coast', with Donald Davies from the East Antrim Vehicle Club and John Montgomery, a local historian, giving the viewers an idea on why this coastline is so special. The Mourne Mountains are next and a family from Doagh speak about why they voted for it, with mum Melanie Bowden saying you can 'boulder the whole way up' and sons Tom and Peter feeling like they've achieved something when they reach the top.

Following this is the American Folk Park in County Tyrone. The attraction tells the stories of Irish emigrants from the 18th and 19th centuries who travelled to America. Michael Pollard is interviewed and says how 'we are always intrigued by the past'. Also featured is a day out at the seaside in Portrush County Antrim. Stuart Anderson gives a testimonial and Frank Trufelli chats about the activities on offer at Barry's Amusements. Other popular days out include 'Belfast Zoo', the 'Fermanagh Lakes' and 'Derry City Walls'.
