Out of many worthy choices, the nation's leading lady is Dame Mary Peters. A 1972 gold-medal winning Olympian from the Munich games, Peters has subsequently worked extensively for charities, in particular for local hospitals. Following this, is Mary McAleese, the former President of Ireland, with Peter Sheridan and Anne Fenton giving testimonials. Coming in third is TV presenter Christine Bleakley, with Chris Sherrard interviewed about why he voted for her.
Then the women with the highest number of votes, in running order are, Gloria Hunniford (TV personality and presenter) with Julie Rowlands, from Whitehead giving a testimonial. The person you call 'mum' is next, Ashley and Gail Harrison from Castlewellan speak about why they voted for their mum, Tracey. Following this is Baroness May Blood, a member of the House of Lords and education advocate, with Jane Morrice interviewed. Proceeding this is the only woman not from Northern Ireland, former Secretary of State, Mo Mowlam, with Denis Murray and Monica McWilliams giving testimonials. The last three voted for are politican Naomi Long, the person you call 'wife' and, then, 1970's Eurovision winner, and politician, Dana Scallon.
