Description

Lovely images of the outside of Robinson & Cleaver, the major department store in Belfast city centre.

Edward Robinson and John Cleaver established their famous shop on the corner of Donegall Place in the 1880s. The building was designed by Young & Mackenzie, architects who built many of the grand buildings of Belfast.

The shop was most famous for selling the finest Irish linen. The inside of the building, with its famous marble staircase, was even more grand than the outside. Sadly it closed in 1984 but we are still fortunate enough to be able to look up and admire this beautiful building.
