The Appalachian Trail spans more than 2000miles and 14 states in the US. Geologists recently dicovered it was part of an ancient mountain range spanning all the way to Europe and so in recent years new chapters of the ancient trail were created including our very own here in Ulster. Mark and lolly will be exploring the 300 mile route axross 4 counties. For centuries thousands of people left these shores to travel to the wild landscapes of the American Appalachians. They were known as the Scotch-Irish.
The people they meet on this journey will help us explore our enduring links with the Appalachian region as well as our own Ulster-Scots language and heritage. On the final leg of this journey the pair go from Gortin Glen Forest Park, The Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, Loch Eske and vist the Moyne Pipe band in Cully. Head to the impressive Assaranca Falls and head along the Bluestack way and mountains then on to Glencolmcille and finally to Bunglass Point.
