Description

Springboard is a charity operating across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, focused on empowering young people to make positive choices. Its Wall2Wall project is dedicated to improving relationships and fostering understanding between young people from Belfast’s Nationalist and Unionist communities. Through this initiative, the charity seeks to bridge divides and build a more united future.

This film, created by filmmaker Cameron Turley, reflects the ambitions of the Wall2Wall project, exploring how the walls in Belfast - originally built for peace - have come to symbolise both protection and division. From just 15 walls in 1989 to 77 by 2024, these structures were erected following the civil unrest of 1969 but have evolved into barriers, limiting interaction and understanding. The Good Friday Agreement of 1998 sought to reduce these walls by 2023, achieving mixed results: some were dismantled, while others emerged in new forms, reinforcing divisions.

Springboard, founded in 1992 and initially based in Belfast and Tallaght, Dublin, has worked with over 14,000 individuals, offering both local and international opportunities for growth. Through its innovative programmes, the charity continues to address the complex challenges of division, working to inspire lasting change, especially among youth who hold the key to shaping future narratives of peace.
