ITV's Victorian-era crime drama, Sergeant Cork, was a huge success in the 1960s, beginning in 1963 and running for six series. Actor William Gaunt played the title character's assistant, Bob Marriott, and in August 1964 he was interviewed for Ulster Television to help promote the fourth series, which began later that month. As well as discussing his career in acting and the letters which Sergeant Cork fans sent to him, Gaunt took the time to record a direct link to camera telling viewers about the new series and how they could watch it. Gaunt would go onto even bigger fame before the end of the decade as one of the leads in the colour spy series The Champions and was also a household name throughout the 1980s as the lead character in the sitcom No Place Like Home.
