Description

This interview with Sir Norman Stronge is edited from a series of interview rushes conducted for With Heart and Hand: Battle of the Somme, a programme commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.Ranging from training and preparation to the tumult of battle, this is a valuable account of a harrowing period in World War 1. As a junior officer, Sir Norman Stronge was awarded the Military Cross and the Croix de Guerre following the battle.

Notes

A former Speaker at Stormont, Sir Norman Stronge was murdered by the IRA along with his son at their home in Tynan Abbey in January 1981.
