Aspects Festival is a celebration of stories, ideas, creativity and the wonderful ways that words bring us together. Poetry has a special place in this year’s programme. Aspects are proud to be part of A Poet in Every Port, an exciting partnership with the Southbank Centre, London that celebrates poetry and creativity while shining a light on local voices, talent and our own vibrant literary community.

Join Aspects for this special event at Seacourt Printworkshop to view some of the collaborative short films of Ross Thompson’s poems along with readings and discussion.

A Silent War began as a series of poems written by Ross during the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. He has created a new kind of war poetry, encountering the existential threat posed by the virus as previous generations would have responded to military conflicts. Ross Thompson invited other poets and writers to collaborate with him by making recordings of this suite of poems.

Continuing with the poet’s spirit of generosity and collaboration, Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive has invited a range of creative practitioners to respond creatively to these works, using archive footage and additional layers of sound and visual imagery. At every stage, the text of the poems forms the core of the work.
