Bending Glass: Neon exhibition and a farewell to Havelock House

Friday 4th - Sunday 6th March 12-6pm

Sunday 2-4pm AM Light will do a live demo of how to bend glass (stay for as long or short a time as you like) 

Location: Flax Art Studios, Havelock House, Belfast, BT7 1EB

The building is cold so wrap up warm. There is step free access to the exhibition however some of the corridors are narrow.  

Bending Glass tells the story of master glass bender and neon sign maker Adrian McNevison of AM Light. This exhibition illuminates the former UTV studios with artworks made from light and archive footage from the UTV vaults. 

It has been carefully crafted by Johanna Leech in collaboration with Stuart Calvin. Featuring neon artworks made by AM Light with Michael Hanna, Stuart Calvin and Johanna Leech; neon crafted by Kevin Killen; Light boxes by Susan Hughes; interviews with Adrian McNevison and his son Chris and a written guide by Paula Blair. 

ABOUT 

Bending Glass has been instigated and organised by artist Johanna Leech in response to the Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive UTV residency programme. The exhibition is in partnership with Flax Art Studios with support from the Department for Communities. The UTV Archive in this exhibition is courtesy of the partnership project (ITV, Northern Ireland Screen and PRONI).

In 2018 Flax Art Studios moved to Havelock House former home of UTV on the Ormeau Road, providing studio space for over 50 artists. Flax will be leaving Havelock House at the end of March however continue to support artists in their North Street and High Street studio and project spaces.

As another send-off to Havelock House as a studio for artists, Shiro Masuyama will display his Borderline project in the Havelock carpark (on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday)
