DFA - Slow TV Launch
Date: 03/05/2022 17:03
Sometimes the world just moves too fast: Images, sounds, ideas whizzing past before we can catch and comprehend them. Thankfully, there are places where we can stop, relax and appreciate landscapes, old traditions and stories.
Welcome to the world of Slow TV.
Slow TV isn’t a new phenomenon. The idea emerged from Norway in the 2000s with films of train journeys, reindeer treks and long walks broadcast in real time at a pace that made us focus on the moment rather than rushing ahead to whatever might come next.
Here at the Digital Film Archive, we have a treasure chest of film spanning over one hundred years of life in Ireland, north and south. There are plenty of entire shows, films and documentaries but also many short films of everyday life. These little films may not amount to much on their own, but collected together they create a tranquil, sweet, funny and poignant space. One we want to share with you.
The Slow TV website gathers these films into collections: Countryside, traditions, streetscapes, to name a few. Just drop in and see what’s on. You can’t rewind or fast forward. Take some time out of your hectic daily routine, and simply move at the pace of the films, to get a glimpse into our heritage, our people, and our Island.
Initially, DFA Slow TV will stream on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, starting at 7pm and running until 9pm. Drop in and ease out of your day with beautiful stories and images. And if you spot something or someone you recognise, contact us - we would love to hear your story too!
