DFA Staff Pick: Mortice (1999)
Date: 06/10/2023 09:22
To celebrate the beginning of October and the Halloween season, this month's staff pick is a clip from 90s local horror short Mortice.
Mortice is the tale of a young couple whose search for a suitable
property takes an unexpected turn. They unwittingly find themselves
trapped in a world of terror, suspense and wall-mounted ceramic ducks.
The story is a potent cocktail of horror and black comedy that will
entertain and alarm in equal measure.
Directed by Belfast-based James T Donnelly of Visionworks, Mortice topped the category for Best New Irish Short Film at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2000. At the time, it was the first time in years that a Northern Irish film had won an award at an international festival and was a boost for local film production.
