"Listen to them. Children of the night. What mu-u-u-sic they make." Dracula, Dracula (1931)
F.W. Murnau's gothic horror masterpiece Nosferatu is to be screened by FilmHubNI member, The MAC.
An unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, the 1922 film was a cinematic landmark. Its influence is apparent in the work of the filmmakers who followed in its bloody wake, not least one Alfred Hitchcock. It is believed that Hitchcock looked to Max Shreck's unforgettable performance as the spindle-limbed Count Orlok in creating Psycho's Norman Bates.
Now, this silent-era, symphony of horror gets the soundtrack it deserves courtesy of classical composer and pianist, Dmytro Morykit. Morykit has form, having previously provided a score for that other silent-era classic, Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927).
With the haunting new score played in tandem with the film, it should make for quite the evening of sound and vision.
Nosferatu LIVE. The MAC. Saturday, 02 April, 8:00pm. Tickets £12.
