This week sees the start of the twelfth annual Outburst Queer Arts Festival. The “queer arts and ideas playground,” which has a firm commitment to inclusivity evident even in its ‘pay what you can’ pricing, brings together artforms of all kinds and folk from all corners of the world.

Amongst all this there’ll be a season of films celebrating the best in new queer cinema, showing at our friend and partner, QFT, and also including Robert Aldrich’s dark melodrama, The Killing of Sister George, which celebrates its fiftieth birthday this year (like the QFT itself!).

The dearth of material on queer culture in our own archive shows the general paucity of representation of alterity in Northern Ireland, but we’ve gone on a deep dive to discover a clip that gives some sense of the vibrancy and fun of the LGBTQI+ community in Northern Ireland…

There's a packed programme that will challenge, surprise, and delight, so don't let the rain put you off - get out(burst) there and enjoy!
