The Trouble with Art

The Trouble with Art

Date: 05/10/2017 15:17

Join us on Sunday 22nd October from 6pm-9pm for a night of film as Belfast Print Workshop and Northern Ireland Screen bring you two documentaries by DoubleBand Films.

The first documentary, made for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in 1989 is about the Belfast Print Workshop, set in the old kitchen at Riddell Hall. This fascinating snapshot of the workshop features Sophie Aghajanian, Camilla Brown, David Crone, Diarmuid Delargy, Micky Donnelly, Kent Jones, Colin Mc Gookin, Pancho Mondrial and the current BPW chair of the board James Allen.

This will be followed by 'The Trouble with Art' a revealing documentary inviting us into the studios and thoughts of 13 artists as they reflect on the impact ‘the Troubles’ has on their lives and their art. Through painting, sculpture and performance they each find their own way to respond to the situation they find themselves in.

Featuring Tom Bevan, Gerry Devlin, Michael Donaghy, Micky Donnelly, Rita Duffy, Nuala Gregory, Catherine Harper, Colin Mc Gookin, Philip Napier, Jack Pakenham, Dermot Seymour, André Stitt and Ross Wilson.

We are delighted to have artist Jack Pakenham introduce the films in this one off screening event with Belfast Print Workshop and the Crescent Arts Centre.

This screening is part of a celebration of 40 years of the Belfast Print Workshop including a comprehensive exhibition and series of events that highlight the extraordinary range of technique, imagery and vision of both past and current print making community.
